Unconventional Couple
Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley surprise Hollywood as they go public with their new romance. They've both had unconventional relationships in the past, but the revelation that Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley are romantically involved with each other has nevertheless raised eyebrows in Hollywood. The couple, who have kept their liaison under wraps since meeting earlier this year, went public for the first time when Nicolas was awarded an honorary doctorate of fine arts from California State University at Fullerton. The star of Captain Corelli's Mandolin was cheered by the crowd as he arrived at the dais dressed in a traditional graduation gown. During his commencement speech, the actor spoke of his inner demons and how his career has provided a healthy outlet for feelings from his troubled childhood. He confessed to the 7000 graduates that he couldn't live without acting. As he received his honorary title - awarded for his contribution and philanthropy to the arts - Lisa Marie sat looking enthralled in her front-row seat. After the ceremony, she and Nicolas attended a champagne brunch at the home of the university President, where they chatted to staff and toasted the new Dr Cage. They stayed for an hour-and-a-half before heading back to Hollywood in a convoy of limousines with a police escort. Their public appearances didn't end there, however. The pair decided to stop off for a quick mooch around the shops in trendy Melrose Avenue, including an interior design store. "They looked happy and relaxed together and even posed for a photograph with their friends," said an onlooker. They then returned to Nicolas's Bel Air mansion where they have been spending a lot of time together recently. The couple first met at Lisa Marie's 33rd birthday celebration in February. but have only been seeing each other seriously in the past month. Lisa Marie, who has two children, has been married twice before - to musician Danny Keough and, more famously, to Michael Jackson for two years. She was also engaged to rock musician John Oszajca until she broke off the relationship in March. Nicolas, who is said to do a mean impression of Lisa Marie's famous dad, was married to actress Patricia Arquette but never lived with her. More recently he has been rumoured to have had an affair with his Captain Corelli co-star Penelope Cruz. |

Cage and Presley to wed
Lisa Marie to marry father's biggest fan In what would surely be one of the spookiest showbiz marriages on record, Nicolas Cage and his latest lady friend, Lisa Marie Presley, are planning to stroll down the aisle. According to sources close to the couple, they are considering a wedding before the year is out. Cage, a lifelong Elvis fan who does a mean impression of the King and has even recorded his answerphone message in a mock-Elvis drawl, is said to be besotted with his hero's daughter.
Her reaction to his extensive collection of memorabilia devoted to her father, on the other hand, is not known. According to an insider: 'They are very passionately in love and say that they want to get married. They've also started talking about kids, but we'll see.' There is, however, one thing blocking the happy couple's nuptials - Cage, 36, is still officially married to Patricia Arquette, although their divorce should be finalised shortly. Presley, 33, was once married to Michael Jackson and has two children, Danielle and Benjamin, from a marriage to Danny Keough. |

Alanis To Speak At Plug.In Fest, Debuts New Material (5/31/01, 1 p.m. ET) -- Alanis Morissette is set to be the speaker for the Plug.In festival, which takes place in New York July 23-24. The event features industry professionals debating critical issues affecting the digital music industry--a concept Morissette had considered extensively. She recently said that the potential for the digital music space is without bounds. "Any idea that an artist has in terms of how they want to share their music, there really are no limits in that sense," she said. "And whether artists want to continue sharing music in album form or a song a month or, you know, whatever ideas they can come up with, there's really no limitation." Plug.In comes right in the middle of Morissette's European summer tour, which kicks off this Friday (June 1) at the Rock Am Ring festival in Nurburgring, Germany. The singer-songwriter used a pair of gigs at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles over the weekend (May 25-26) to road test a batch of new songs from her forthcoming yet-to-be-titled album that will likely be featured on the tour. Titles included "Fear Of Bliss," "Flinch," "Bent 4 U," "Unprodigal Daughter," Purgatorying," "A Man," Narcissist," and "21 Things I Want In A Lover." Morissette also played songs off Jagged Little Pill, and follow-up, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie; among them "Thank You," "Uninvited," "Sympathetic Character," and set-closer "Ironic." Seen at the intimate shows were No Doubt's Gwen Stefani and her beau Bush's Gavin Rossdale, Incubus's Mike Einziger, Paula Cole, K.D. Lang, Lisa Marie Presley, actor/director Quentin Tarantino, and actor Sean Hayes (Will & Grace). |
