Deal is confirmed: Lisa Marie on Java
Who needs Michael Jackson? Ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley has signed a debut deal with Java Records, a joint venture with Capitol, and goes into the studio in January.
Java is owned by Glen Ballard, who produced Alanis Morrissette's smash album Jagged Little Pill. People's Mitchell Fink scooped this Wednesday on CNN's Showbiz Today, and it was confirmed to me by a Presley spokesman.
Ballard will co-write and produce with Elvis' only child. He said in a statement Wednesday: ''Lisa and I met through a mutual friend, and I was struck by her intelligence, her talent and her passion for music. There has been a genuine creative connection between us, and it is clear to me that Lisa will make an artistic statement that is unique and compelling.''
Jackson tried to get a record deal for Presley but nothing came of it. Ballard co-wrote Jackson's Man in the Mirror.

LOS ANGELES (June 4, 1998 10:26 p.m.) - Lisa Marie Presley has become the latest rock 'n' roll offspring to enter the music business. She's signed with a new label run by singer Alanis Morissette's collaborator, it was announced Thursday.
Presley, 30, is one of the first acts on Java Records, a label formed in 1996 by Glen Ballard, who produced and co-wrote the tracks on Morissette's hit album "Jagged Little Pill." Java is a joint venture of Ballard and Capitol Records.
"Lisa Marie and I met through a mutual friend, an attorney, in December of 1997," Ballard said in a statement, "and I was struck by her intelligence, her talent and her passion for music. There has been a genuine creative connection between us, and it is clear to me that Lisa Marie will make an artistic statement that is unique and compelling."
A spokeswoman for Ballard said Presley would go into the studio "sometime this year." However other details such as the terms of the deal and her musical leanings were not available.
The other major act on Java is Terence Trent D'Arby, the American-born British-based soul singer.
Presley has maintained a relatively low public profile despite being the daughter of one of the most celebrated recording artists in history, Elvis Presley, and former wife of Michael Jackson.
The mother of two performed publicly for the first time last August when she "duetted" via electronic wizardry on the song "Don't Cry Daddy" with her late father at a Memphis concert marking the 20th anniversary of his death.
Other rock star progeny currently with new records include Sean Lennon, son of the late Beatle; Bob Dylan's son, Jakob, who heads the Wallflowers; Chris Stills, son of Stephen; and Emma Townshend, daughter of Who guitarist Pete.

Lisa Marie Presley, famous for being Elvis's daughter, recently announced her intention to star in a new gal-pal movie with her friend, and former sister-in-law, Janet Jackson. Unfortunately, her plans are currently on hold. Jackson, who already has a successful singing career, is reportedly unwilling to expose herself to public ridicule in order to keep her friend amused.

Presley puts mansion up for sale
By THOMAS C. TOBIN (ゥ St. Petersburg Times, published March 14, 1998)

CLEARWATER -- Lisa Marie Presley, the city's most famous resident, has put her home on the market.
The 30-year-old daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley bought the home in late 1996 for $1.2-million. A spokeswoman for her publicist said she did not know whether Presley planned to relocate locally or move from the area.
The home overlooks Clearwater Harbor and is situated several blocks north of the downtown headquarters of the Church of Scientology, where Presley is a parishioner. She is part of an influx of thousands of Scientologists who have moved to Clearwater in the 1990s to be closer to the church's spiritual headquarters. Paula Angenendt, the real estate agent handling the sale, said she had been instructed by the owner not to answer any questions about the property right now.
While in Clearwater, Presley has taken pains to guard her privacy and that of her two children. She installed an elaborate security system and a 6-foot-high block wall running the length of seven football fields around the property. In addition, public records regarding the property are in the name of men who have a hand in handling her family's affairs. They include a Memphis lawyer whose firm has worked for the Elvis Presley estate; an officer at the Memphis bank who advises the estate; and the head of a financial management company who is an officer for companies owned by Presley and her mother.
According to property records, the three-level home has 5,200 square feet of livable space, a pool, a spa, a 430-square-foot patio and a dock jutting 150 feet into Clearwater Harbor. It is assessed for tax purposes at about $650,000, which is up about 60 percent since she bought it.
The home has attracted the interest of tabloid publications, which have published long-lens photos of Presley lounging around her pool. A story in the National Enquirer about Presley's life in Clearwater prompted a lawsuit in which she says the publication libeled her and invaded her privacy.

IN OTHER JACKSON NEWS - HE TAKES LISA-MARIE OUT ON THE TOWN IN LA:
King of Pop MICHAEL JACKSON has set tongues wagging again after being spotted out on the town with ex-wife LISA MARIE PRESLEY. The THRILLER star left pregnant wife DEBBIE ROWE at home while he wined and dined Presley at the exclusive IVY restaurant in Beverly Hills, California last Saturday night. Jackson emerged from the eaterie hand in hand with the 30-year- old daughter of ELVIS, and the couple sped off in a waiting car. Rumors are now rife that Presley's bizarre romance with the megastar is back on again. The news will not be welcomed by her first husband DANNY KEOUGH, who only recently was reported to have reunited with Presley. Keough banned Presley from letting the singer near their two children after seeing pictures of five year-old son BEN sitting on Jackson's lap. Now with the latest sightings, Jacko is well and truly in Keough's bad books.

LISA MARIE DUMPS JACKO TO GO BACK TO HER EX:
LISA MARIE PRESLEY has said goodbye to MICHAEL JACKSON once and for all and fallen back into the arms of first husband and father of her children DANNY KEOUGH. Keough was horrified when he saw recent holiday snaps of their five-year-old son BEN sitting on Jackson's lap. Keough warned Lisa Marie he would take court action for custody of the kids if they came into contact with Jackson again. So Lisa Marie has promised Keough she will keep her distance from Jackson, whom she married in 1994 and divorced in 1996. A friend is quoted in American tabloid the NATIONAL ENQUIRER as saying, "Lisa Marie was stunned at the thought that they might end up in a battle for the children. She promised Danny it would never happen again. She realized how much she still loves Danny." The couple are now believed to be reunited after Keough helped Lisa Marie celebrate her 30th birthday last weekend at an amusement park in Southern California Reverend RICK STANLEY, Presley's uncle, says, "I've been praying that Lisa Marie and Danny would get back together. I pray it means she's getting her life in order." Let's hope so.

ARE LISA MARIE'S FORTUNES BACK IN THE GRIP OF JACKSON??:

LISA MARIE PRESLEY is back in the clutches of ex-husband MICHAEL JACKSON, sparking fears that he'll grab control of the multi-million dollar Presley empire. The couple have been spotted spending hours together chatting business and pleasure despite Jackson having a wife and child, with another on the way, back at his Neverland Ranch in California. And family friends of Presley say mom PRISCILLA is freaking out that the singer is only interested in her daughter's fortune, left to her by ELVIS PRESLEY. A friend told American tabloid NATIONAL EXAMINER, "She's starstruck over Michael.
And he's convinced her she can trust him over anyone else. She told me 'I can trust Michael. Michael has all the money he could ever use. He has no reason to try to get part of mine." Presley is due to inherit the $300 million Elvis estate when she turns 30 on February 1st. A friend said, "Priscilla is scared to death that Michael will take over and fire her. This is the guy who shrewdly bought up the rights to all the Beatles songs. So now PAUL McCARTNEY would have to pay Michael if he wants to record one of his own songs. Priscilla's petrified Michael is up to the same game with Lisa."
