We've heard...

People in the news
New details keep trickling in on the Tom Cruise-Nicole Kidman split. According to the Internet Movie Database news link, Cruise filed for divorce from Kidman because the Catholic Kidman wanted the couple's two adopted children, Isabella and Connor, to be raised Catholic and Cruise wanted them raised as Scientologists. The story also says that Cruise had been spending lots of time with Lisa Marie Presley, and quotes a source as saying that "Tom is perfect for her and she is perfect for him. This is a natural, inevitable pairing. Tom and Lisa Marie are so compatible it's almost scary." |

Tabloid believers give Presley officer a giggle in Graceland
By HEARNE CHRISTOPHER JR. - Columnist Date: 02/18/01 22:15 Talk about all shook up ... The "Lisa Marie to Sell Graceland" headline last month on the cover of the National Examiner sent Elvis aficionados packing for Heartbreak Hotel. Not to worry, say former KC guy Jack Soden, chief executive officer of Elvis Presley Enterprises in Memphis, Tenn. "I know," Soden says, laughing at the tabloid's pseudo-scoop. "And you open it up and it says she's selling it to Michael Jackson. Of course, our Web site got all these e-mails -- not thousands but a remarkable number. And you marvel that anybody would believe it. We kind of got a kick out of it." So that means there's no factual basis to the report? "Of course not. I've just been with Lisa Marie (recently) in L.A., and we were kind of kidding her about it. You know, saying: `Graceland. It was good. We're going to miss Graceland now that you've sold it to Michael.' "Her only comment was that she was absolutely blown away that a couple of her friends called her. Like one of them was Joey Ramone -- remember Joey Ramone (of the Ramones)? They're friends." Another Lisa Marie take, according to Soden: " `What are these people, idiots? It's a tabloid.' " A pop culture institution, Graceland has been open to the public for nearly two decades. So it's possible conversion into another "Neverland" ranch would send seismic proportion tremors through Memphis. Still Gracelanders took the "news" in stride, Soden says. While passing another Elvis exec recently, Soden shook his head and said, "I see Lisa's selling Graceland," Soden says. "And he just said, `Oh well, Graceland hasn't been on the market for about two years.' You know, Lisa was (supposedly) selling Graceland about every other year for the last 18 years." |

In Studio D at Westlake Audio (L.A.), Lisa Marie Presley tracked with producer Glen Ballard, engineer Chris Fogel and assistants Jeff Robinette and Jesse Gorman. |
In 1995, a young Canadian singer burst upon the scene, releasing an album that forever changed the landscape of the music business. Her name was Alanis Morissette, and the album was Jagged Little Pill. Not only did it yield three hit singles and dominate the charts for close to a year, it ended up selling over 30 million copies worldwide, setting an all-time record for a debut recording. And did we mention that it was recorded on ADATs in a home studio? Glen Ballard was Morissette's producer on that fateful album and on her follow-up Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie. In the past year, he's reprised that success with No Doubt's critically acclaimed album, Return Of Saturn. A protege of producer/arranger Quincy Jones, Ballard already had a long and distinguished track record on the day that Morissette first appeared at the door of his home studio with a sheaf of lyrics and an idea about making a new kind of record. He was the man behind the board for the Wilson Philips hit "Hold On," as well as a string of successes for a diverse crop of artists, ranging from Teddy Pendergrass to Curtis Stigers to Barbra Streisand to Paula Abdul. An accomplished instrumentalist, arranger, and songwriter, he had already written hits for the likes of Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Al Jarreau, George Strait, and Earth, Wind & Fire. Today he heads up his own record label - Java Records - and is currently working with Lisa Marie Presley and fledgling singer/songwriter Celeste Prince; there are even rumors afoot that he may soon be collaborating with an illustrious ex-Beatle. But no matter where his career takes him, he will forever be known as the man who, in true harmony with an artist of rare vision and talent, guided a record from a home studio to the top of the charts, proving once and for all that, yes, it can be done.
(Excerpts)
Glen Ballard: Absolutely. She's not a carbon copy of Elvis - she's distinctive in her own right - but to the extent that a musical gene is there, she's got it. Her record has emerged as something that is a real testament to her talent and her distinctive place in the universe. EQ: Is she writing as well as singing? Glen Ballard: Yes, she wrote the entire album, either with me or with Cliff Magnus, or with Billy Corgan. She's emerged as a very gifted lyricist and as someone who's completely uncompromising in her approach. If there's any influence of Alanis Morissette, it's that she inspired a lot of people - especially women - to speak their mind and to not shrink from any topic and to not shrink from talking honestly. Lisa's got a lot to say, she's got a great sense of humor, and a unique take on life in general. It's a fierce record, and I love it. EQ: What sort of style is it? Glen Ballard: It's got elements of pop, blues, and rock, but it's a distinctive sound. It's certainly not shy and retiring; it has an element of aggressiveness to it, it has an element of cool, funky, slightly Southern in its flavor, which is not surprising. [Laughs] |

Steven, UK
Hello Lisamarie, I see that you are working with Glen Ballard, how did you come to be working with him. I know he has worked with the Corrs and Wilson Phillips. Apart from Elvis who have been your musical influences that you are gaining your musical inspiration from. Best of luck with the album, I can't wait for it to come out in the UK. The very first music that I took to (aside from my Dad) was The Sweet Inspirations. I knew all of their songs front to back at age 3. Glen and I had the same lawyer and he hooked us up. I was actually going to sign with another label but my lawyer convinced me to meet Glen first. I did, he heard some songs I had written, and immediately got me and where I was coming from as an artist and that was that. -LMP |

Iain, Scotland
Hi Lisa, my name is Iain and am from Scotland. I am a big fan of your father and I am really keen to hear u sing, too...I just wanted to ask you about your musical influences...who do you listen to?...who do u most sound like? and what style of music are u recording for your new album? and what was the last elvis song u listened to and when? My taste in music is a very broad spectrum. I like everything from old 70s music to Tori Amos to Marilyn Manson. I like the band LIVE, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Merchant, alternative, REM, etc. I get hooked on one thing for a while and then move onto something else. I don't think I sound like anyone from what I have been told. The music on my album has many influences behind it. I hope you like it. Thanks Iain. -LMP |

Davit, Tulsa, OK
Hi Lisa- I'm curious to know your musical influences:) As a teenager who did you listen to? And who do you listen to today besides John:) Also, are there any musical styles that just make you cringe? Sincerely, Davit As a teen (oh god) I was into Pat Benatar, Heart, really into Pink Floyd (particularly "The Wall" I felt was my anthem, and "Dark Side of the Moon"), and then I went full on into the Heavy Metal stage, ie: Whitesnake, AC/DC, DIO, Lita Ford, Def Leopard, etc. After that I went into R&B for a long time and to answer your last question, yes, there are musical styles that make me cringe. I probably shouldn't elaborate on that too much. I don't want to offend anyone... Thanks for writing. -LMP |

Lisa's Site Update
They finally updated...Theres a new pic of her and John from the Louis Vuitton opening in NY...and in the news section...
Lisa Marie Presley has finished her debut album and delivered it to Java/Capitol Records. She is currently working hard on being stable for her children and
fiance, John Oszajca, as well as serving as the Chairman of the Board of Elvis Presley Enterprises and dealing with all the other crazy stuff that happens along the way. She has gotten into the bad habit of listening to her songs too much and then after a supposed "final mix", she recalls the song, changes something, and drives Glen Ballard crazy though now that the album is finished, she won't be able to do that.

Lisa's debut album
As of now, Capitol Records is shooting for a May/June release. There are some changes going on right now with Capitol and there could possibly be a small hold up due to that but I have finished the album as of 2 weeks ago and I turned it in. It will be getting mastered very soon. (LMP) リサの デビュー・アルバムの 録音は 完了しました。 テープは 2週間前に Java/Capitol Records に 渡され、現在、 5、6月の 発売に向け 少し手直しされた後 マスターリング作業に入ります。 <--- Lisa in Studio |
